	Permanent and incurable insanity is a ground for divorce. The consequences of limited divorces vary from state to state. Typically, a limited divorce is commonly referred to as a separation decree; the right to cohabitation is terminated but the marriage is not dissolved and the status of the parties is not altered.

A little less than half of all marriages in the United States end in divorce. The current divorce rate is down a few percentage points from a peak in 1981, but the current divorce rate is almost double what is was in the 1950s.
